Stargate SciFi Cake

Share

I recently had a last minute request for a special 40th Birthday Cake.  The birthday boy was a big Stargate fan  and wanted a special cake  to top off his birthday celebrations. Well being as crazy as I am I decided to take it on. How could I say no, I am partial to a little Sci-Fi myself and had recently started watching Stargate Universe. Of course this major feat could not be undertaken alone. My partner Martin is the master of the airbrush and I knew with his help we could make this cake out of this world.

All in all it took around 35 man hours to create. Everything was finely detailed to match the gate from SG-1. I was super excited with the final results and thought you may want to see some of the progress pictures to see how we create an edible wonder such as this.

The first step, the gate is covered in fondant, the "event horizon" is airbrushed and the edges of the gate has the beginnings of it's details

The figurine is hand made from flower paste and the details are carved into it

The details on the stargate are built up layer by layer

The cake, the board and the gate are all airbrushed in edible metallic paint

The final result speaks for itself.

Me, loving the final result
